I read in one reply posted by PublicSavBk that the new Federal Law age requirements for getting a secured cc with your bank are 21. I didn't think the new law came into effect until Feb. 22, 2010. What Federal law are you referring to or is it just your bank's law?

Checks and debit cards would get me in trouble. i only have a savings account. Is there another way to get this card besides online checks or checking account deductions (since i have neither)???????????

Absolutely! You can send us a money order, go to Western Union or you can ask your bank to wire us the funds.

Wires and Western Union are the fastest way to set up your security account.

Thank you for considering Public Savings Bank!

Hey There - Endless thank yous for the reliable, well considered info you provide CK. I wonder if you can highlight the differences between this PSB Secured card and the HSBC Orchard Card (link Below). I see saw that CK had previously recommended Orchard but has since removed recommended status (although you still sometimes refer to Orchard in Comment respones).

Also, with a credit score ranging from 557 to 576 could you speak to the likelyhood of approval for an unsecured card from Orchard or any other "lower fee" provider?

It's hard to predict what another bank would do with a "subprime" score but generally I think all banks and credit card companies have tightened their credit requirements. However, there are plenty of choices and I would recommend shopping around for the one that best meets your requirements.

HSBC is a reputable bank. I did not study it, but I did not see where they report your payment activity to credit repositories or where they allow a 25 day grace period. The HSBC card also comes with an annual fee.

Our card also comes with a 0% APR for the first 6 months on all purchases and no annual fee.

Thank you for considering Public Savings Bank and we hope to earn your business!

Thanks for your reply PublicSavBK. HSBC Orchard has a 21 day grace period, Reports to all 3 credit bureaus, Pays interest on you deposit, Has no annual fee for first year and $35 thereafter, and a 7.9apr. No upfront or other fees so $200 and you're in.

I got my card in the mail friday the whole process for me was only two weeks i did the online check after getting a email and sending in a copy of social and id via fax my checkin account had two small deposits from public savings for verification after only a day i then went to verify the deposits by calling the number they provided after that my online check was processed two days later and cleared i waited five days and got an email from public savings saying that the funds were cleared and that my card would be two or three weeks but it was only five days when it came so the whole process for me from start to finish was exactly two weeks if you follow all instructions and look for the emails and verify that thats your checkin account with the deposits they make i wouldnt pay for the express processing because you will get your card anyway after four or five days after the five day wait they make you wait to verify funds have cleared which you will know by checkin your own account that it clears about a day or two but they still make you wait the five days i havent use my card yet because i here for a better credit score you should waite 30 days before using any new card myfico.com has great tips and advice on how to get credit on track

I would like to understand this better before signing up I pay 379 to get this started and 300 would be my limit and atthe endof the month if I have spent 150 on the acct I would only add the money that make up the 300 limit am I understanding this correctly

Not exactly. You're thinking like this is a prepaid card. If you spend $150 on a $300 credit limit, you have 2 options:

1. Pay in full so balance is zero

2. Pay the minimum payment and finance the balance.

This is a credit card, not a debit card.

Hope this helps?

Thank you for considering Public Savings Bank

I have this card. I currently have a limit of $500.00. How do I increase my limit? Also, there is a long lag time after payment is made even online - why does it take at least 5 business days for the payment to be applied even when it is coming directly from my checking account? This caused me problems on a recent trip with a hotel..

You can increase the credit line after being a customer for 120 days. Just call our office and someone will walk you through the process. There is a $25 fee for a credit line increase.

Credit line availability is based on when your checks clear. This can take up to 5 business days depending on where you live, HOWEVER, it is possible to get availability sooner by calling the customer service center.

Thank you for being a customer and I hope the card helps you reach your goals.
