Got questions? We’ve got answers.

Yes –  We’re committed to guarding your data and making sure only you can access your Credit Spark. We use multi-factor authentication to verify your identity and encrypt your stored data using AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard with 256-bit keys), which ensures the highest level of cryptographic security. We also proactively search for scams and frauds and immediately block suspicious activity to help keep your information safe.  For more details, please see our privacy policy.

It’s best for members who are new to credit, have a score below 660, or don’t have a score at all. If you have a “thin file” (little to no credit history), Credit Spark helps you add a track record of on-time payments to your report, which can be key to establishing your first credit score.

No. Credit Spark is 100% free.

No. Enrolling in Credit Spark never triggers a hard inquiry or credit check.

We don’t report missed payments to the bureau. If we can’t detect a payment for a month, it simply shows as “unknown” on your report. However, please note that if no payments are found for 3 months, the tradeline will be closed due to inactivity.

Once you enroll, it takes 4–7 days for the new accounts (your bills) to appear on your TransUnion report. These help build your Payment History, but can temporarily lower your Average Age of Credit, so score changes depend on your unique profile. Keep making on-time payments and check back monthly!

Credit Spark will affect credit scores which are calculated using (a) TransUnion credit data; and (b) a scoring model that factors in alternative data such as rent and utility payments. Rent and utility payment data are considered by VantageScore® 3.0 and 4.0, as well as FICO® Scores 9 and 10.

Yes, they can. While every lender has their own criteria, many modern credit scoring models now consider “alternative data,” such as rent and utility payment history. For lenders that use TransUnion VantageScore® 3.0 and 4.0 or FICO® Scores 8 and 9, your verified bill payment history can play a role in credit decisions. By using Credit Spark to report these payments, you’re building a stronger, more complete financial resume.
