Great card
Credit Karma Member

The first time credit karma advised me of the offer. I applied and was approved $1,250 credit. And my credit score was only 639. Now is 709 after having the card for only two months.

Don't believe your "outstanding" approval odds.
Credit Karma Member

Outstanding is a big word. I applied for this card based on my "outstanding" approval odds per Credit Karma. After I applied it took weeks of the same emails coming in asking for me to upload my identification, which I did each time, and finally was told I was not approved for the card because I have bankruptcy on my credit report from 8 years ago. Why was I told I had "outstanding" odds? How is this calculated. Ridiculous. I will not trust any card recommendations from Credit Karma in the future.

$8 monthly fee + Highest Interest Rates!
Credit Karma Member

Don’t do it! 1. Limit is super low! 2. Charges $8 a month after some time of owning it. 3. This card has highest interest rate out of all of my credit card. 4. I had to close this card because of the abrupt $8 monthly fee so it will negatively impact my credit score! Stay away from these shady cards!

Why do they even offer this card?!
Credit Karma Member

Terribly unethical and dishonest company. And the only thing the card would be good for is if you're trying to build credit but for some reason it's harder to get than an American Express black card! If I were you I would not waste my time even applying for this. Most people will not be approved and there are better options available that are easier to get.

$96 ANNUAL FEE-Falsly Advertising as No Annual Fee
Credit Karma Member

BEWARE!!! The NO ANNUAL FEE IS TEMPORARY! I have had the Petal One Visa for over two years now. I always pay on time and don't carry a balance. After over two years of perfect history with this card since March of 2021, they have decided to impose an $8/month $96/annual fee starting on July 1st, 2023. I have a 750 credit score and no derogatory marks on my credit report. It is very shady to abruptly, and for no reason, impose an annual/monthly fee as the card is still being advertised as a no annual fee card (false advertising) . Customer service could not give me a reason for this change when I called to ask about it. Avoid this card! There are plenty of better cards out there with no annual fee and good cash back rewards. There are no rewards with this card at all. The select merchants rewards is inaccurate. I tried to go to a restaurant that Petal claimed had a 5% cash back reward. The cash back never came. I reported this to Petal and they said they'd look into it. 3 months later, after they said they'd look into it, there was still no reward. Immediately after inquiring again after having waited the 3 months, I just got notice of them imposing an annual fee on my account (May 18th, 2023) starting in July. This card is shady and not to be trusted. There are much better, more honest, rewards giving, true no annual fee cards out there. Don't waste your time with this card. I will be closing the account by July 1st to avoid this new, unexplained annual fee and replacing it with a better, more trustworthy card, with no annual fee, and actual cash back rewards.

It was good until
Credit Karma Member

It was a decent card until they increased the interest rate. When I got it was about 21% now it’s around 28. Not only that they just added (may 2023) a 8 USD monthly account fee plus transactions fees if not run as credit. They give you two options. Agree or close the account. I will be closing the account

Sudden fees
Credit Karma Member

With a month and a half warning, they've decided to start charging monthly fees ($8 month). There WILL be plenty of people who have this card that will pay this without even knowing about it since they were told that there were zero fees. Truly scummy behavior.

No cash back, plenty of fees
Credit Karma Member

Had this card for a few years and never missed a payment or carried a balance. Today I got an email saying they were going to start imposing an $8 a month membership fee ($96 a year) and a percentage fee on "cash like transactions", whatever that means. They gave me the option to cancel it in two clicks. AVOID THIS CARD! Any company that would do this to its best customers isn't to be trusted. Absolutely not worth an annual fee. There are plenty of better options from reputable lenders for starter cards to build your credit.

The card will be a 96 annual fee card in July
Credit Karma Member

What are you guys doing? The Petal 1 card was a no annual fee card since like 2020-2021. And you should have kept it like that. Now as of today (May 16, 2023) you decided to make it an annual fee card for 96 dollars a year which is 8 dollars a month. The card is beginner card not going to even lie to you. And that was the good thing. It was supposed to be the card you start your credit history with. And now it’s like the chase freedom card preferred which is a 95 dollar annual fee card which not trying to burst your bubble but the petal 1 card is definitely not up to par with the chase freedom card preferred. I was talking to some of your representatives about this new change and they said you are working on trying to bring upgrading and downgrading to your system in the future. GENIUS but you should have did that from the start. So that a person with the Petal 1 card can have the leisure when they had the card for free in the first place. My advice get the upgrading and downgrade feature in as quick as possible. Because this isn’t good business whatsoever. It’s basically coercion. You gave us two options accept this new policy or cancel or close the account. Where is the choices I may ask you????

4 months still no card
Credit Karma Member

I applied through credit karma, I was approved. This was back in mid November. It is now almost 4 months, and numerous phone calls, including email to send proof of my address, and I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY CARD. It shows I have an account on their app, it shows I have an account on my credit report with my available balance..I have gotten my other cards from other companies within 5 business days. Most recently 2 of my cards reissued for upgrades and new for expiring ones. Every time I call, in told wait 6-10 business days, then I call again, they cancel the card "sent" and reissue... credit karma dropping ball on offering good cards. I've been rebuilding my credit, and now this is going to affect my score when I end up canceling the account.
