This is a good deal for those scared of the online brokers and the mumbo jumbo on their sites. It's OK for fund investors and those who want to start a DRIP plan and for those folks looking for a riskier alternative to a boring 1% savings account.

If you're looking for SAFETY and some higher returns than savings, and $0 fees--you are better off going to TreasuryDirect, opening a free account with the government, and buying bonds directly from Uncle Sam.

You can transfer money in and out for free and it costs you nothing. Don't pay to buy these bonds through the other online sites when you can pay zero-fees and get the tax advantages.
