I have this account and have had it for years. Yes, the interest rate fluctuates based on going rates, but HSBC is a rock-steady institution with great customer service, and an awesome web interface. THey make moving money in and out of the HSBC account really easy.

They change your interest rate and don't even let you know. I had them back when they were offering 4.51 and it dropped to 2.01 within 3 months. Currently I'm getting 2.65 with dollar one direct, which is also an online saving account and they have no fees.

I have this HSBC Online Savings Account, and it has been quite easy to use. Agree with PatMan that the transfers should be able to be recognized faster (ie. I notice the withdrawal within 1 day from my linked account, but HSBC doesn't show it available for 2 additional days). This affects the interest payment - which is based on "average available daily balance".

I currently have a 3.5% from HSBC; as well as a 4.25% CD; their online tools are intuitive and easy to use. The transfer feature is a bit slow when moving money into or out of HSBC (takes about 3 days for the transfers to complete).
