This is the most absolute horrible time to be buying CDs. Why lock yourself into the lowest interest rates in history? Not a wise move. If you do a CD, don't go longer than 12 months out so you have a better shot at chasing higher rates. Interest rates have nowhere to go but up.

Royal Banks of Missouri has a 4.3% checking account with 15 debit transactions and one direct deposit or ACH withdrawal per month. Apparently has been offering this product since May 2009. I am not so pleased with their customer service in making sure everything was in place for me to get the higher rate, but now that I am doing what I must to get it, I like the thought that I am not tied in for the long haul because it is a checking account. No minimum balance either.
