Check with your bank

If you know your score - I would go to your bank/credit union and have a frank discussion - that your score is X - and you would like a non secure low limit card - but not if from what your present score is is to low the request will be denied - Remember if they say apply and lets see your score will get dinged by 10 points - and about two years for this credit mark to come off, so that is NOT the way to cause the score to go up.

Basically you want to develop a relationship with your bank or credit union - such that you can speak to them - to apply willy nilly at on line or department stores is not the best way IMHO.

Then once you get the card - make a small purchase just after the closing date.  This will give you the maximium amount of time to pay it off - and do pay it off a couple of days before the due date.  What this will do is allow the balance to get reported to the bureau's - but you won't pay interest.  Then let it report as 0.00 - this see-saw low balance then zero will cause the score to start climbing - yet you won't pay interest.  Think this way - pay with card 100.00 item - then PAY IT OFF - don't pay interest - so that the 100.00 item ends up costing you 125.00 that is just silly !

Good Luck -

Your credit score will determine whether a lender will grant you credit. You can apply for a card within your credit parameters. Keep in mind this site uses a different scoring system, generally higher,  than the credit bureaus, so you need to know your true FICO score. I would not necessarily follow the card recommendations on this site. Rather go to each lenders website. A hard inquiry will result upon application which will drop your score a bit.

No one will give you an unsecured card with poor credit. A fair credit rating - you won't have many choices but look at the Capital One website.  I encourage you to read the articles here to educate yourself.

Depends on how messed up your credit is. First get a FICO credit score..yes it will cost you 20 bucks.

From there try for CreditOne..its a annual fee credit card, but not too outrageous. When i was first divorced and Credit score in the low 500s  they gave me a card  and increased the credit ,limit numerous times.

After i had made payments to them for a year..other better ( no fee) offers flooded in.

Good luck
