Closing a secured credit card
I have a secured credit card I opened when re-building credit. I now have a decent credit score and a couple of other new credit accounts including an auto loan. I've read that closing this acct (now my oldest one) will significantly drop my score, but I would like to close this account to recoup MY money that is sitting in it and to eliminate this card as it has an annual fee (I've tried to get the issuer to waive the fee and they haven't the past 2 years). I have no late payments, utilization is great, etc. I would just like to get my money that I put into this card to secure it back now. It's a few hundred dollars - but I hate the trap knowing my hard-earned score will be affected as a result. I have a zero balance on the card. Having my money back might be worth more to me than letting some financial institution continue to make money off of my money... Any advice?
