Unsecured credit card with "recent" charge-off?
When my business went under in 2008, I had a couple accounts that became late and were eventually charged off. I paid all of the accounts about 6 years ago, so my FICO score is back up to 770 according to a mortgage lender. I have applied for a couple "starter" credit cards like the Capital One Quicksilver and a Barclays card, but they were both declined. It blows my mind that I can get a mortgage, but not a small unsecured credit card. I have secured cards, but I want to start rebuilding my credit limits already. It has been 6 years! Do I really need to wait until those accounts are 7+ years old before I can get a credit card?
