How we picked these cards

To select these cards, we carefully reviewed Wells Fargo’s credit cards, looking closely at their features, rewards, fees and terms. We chose our categories to align with some of the most common needs of consumers in the market for credit cards.

We also ensured each card we picked was suited to its audience, and that each offered compelling benefits and low fees.

How to make the most of these Wells Fargo credit cards

Depending on the card you choose, it could offer a low introductory APR offer period on purchases. If you have any emergency expenses arise during that time, you can put the purchase on your credit card and chip away at the balance during the intro period.

Just try to pay off the full balance — or as much of it as possible — before the regular APR kicks in to minimize how much you’ll pay. You’ll also want to ensure you know the length of your intro APR period to avoid any budgeting surprises when the APR jumps up to its regular rate.

If your card has a rewards program, one strategy for maximizing the amount of cash back and points you earn is to use your card for everyday purchases, like bills, groceries and gas.

But be careful to avoid the trap of charging purchases on the card that you can’t truly afford just to earn rewards. If you carry a balance, you’ll end up owing interest and could eventually find yourself mired in debt. The goal is to earn rewards for purchases you would make anyway, not to let the rewards entice you into bad spending habits.

Keep in mind that if you have a savings or checking account with Wells Fargo, you can use your credit card as a form of overdraft protection. This way, if you accidentally overdraw on your bank account, the overdrafted amount will automatically be charged to your credit card to cover the transaction.
