Should I open a student credit card?
I am a freshman in college my credit is fair. I opened up a Best Bank credit card since my mom( who has poor credit)said it was important to increase my credit score. The problem was I did not have a job so I would salvage any money I had to pay it off. I realized that my mom's advice to open a credit card was causing me headaches so I closed it the other day.I felt like I needed to close it since I felt like I had to use it for personal reasons even though I had no way to truly pay it off every month. After talking to some people they said I should wait to open another credit card when I have a stable income so I will not have charges added to my account if I can not pay it off. I was considering opening a JourneySM Student Rewards credit card from Capital One since they seem to have the most benefits. Plus I will receive an extra 25% in cash if I pay my bill before the billing date. What is your opinion about this credit card? Did I make the right decision? I just don't want to end up with bad credit like my mother.
