Probably the best rate of the non-internet banks. They are also FDIC insured which is a must have these days. How is their customer service?

Customer service wise, I've never had a problem with them. I won't deny that there are horror stories out there on the Internet in regards to WaMu, but I myself have never ran into anything remotely questionable after having a checking, savings, and cd with them. When I first opened the online checking/savings, they did put a week hold on funds deposited, but that was only for the first month (and they spell that out in the disclosure form anyways). There's a branch two blocks from my work, so whenever I need to deposit some checks, I just walk over at lunch. They get thumbs up from me, and are certainly better than my time with Wells Fargo.

Rate is very good, but I've heard way to many horror stories...sites like consumerist.com keep good track of peoples issues with WaMu. The rate is intriguing but I wouldn't take my chances after what I have heard about them.

People apparently really hate their phone service, but the in-branch service has always been fine. Almost everything is free, free checking, free outgoing wires, free checks. They're NOT in great shape (although they could very well pull through). Do **NOT** put more in there than the FDIC limits.

Having huge problems with B of A/LaSalle merger (from last year), so I took up WaMu and am finally being treated like a customer again.
Try two week holds at B of A, Checks drawn on thier own Bank! How about an $18 K Check deposited in some one's account in Ca. two month's ago, than after I caught the missing deposit after a week, they hold the corrected deposit for an additional two weeks! I've loudly in the Bank protested this stupidity at locations, by asking what the hold time on Cash deposits is!
Been with B of A for five years and LaSalle over thirty! I've warned them over and over, I will jump ship if they don't get their acts together to no avail. Incredibly bad service and what astounds me is that they bought LaSalle for their deposits and the Chicago Market. I wonder how many other previous LaSalle customers have done the same thing and severed their ties!

I have not liked using their phone customer service but have had great experiences in-person at an actual branch.

I have actually experienced horror stories with WAMU, but I still use them. I, actually use a few different banks for savings. WAMU is not the best bank but it is better than a lot of the other ones out there and they offer a good interest rate.

FYI...after checking the details, the 3.75% APY applies to an Online Savings account opened in conjuction with the WaMu Free Checking account.
The rate is NOT for the checking account itself. This is a little misleading.

I would like to add, my experience with their phone service was very satisfying. Couple of people I spoke with were patient and helpful.
