Stay away from Chase/WaMu. Chase is charging their credit card transfer customers a $10 monthly fee to keep their low APR + their minimum monthly payment increases to 5% of the balance. They could say no to this privilege but they'll have their APR increased. See the link below for details.

"WaMu" has not dropped down to 1%. This will likely stay for at least a little while; otherwise, below 1% would be lower than any other bank checking/savings account offers."

WaMu is great and it will get even better with Chase.

Chase is a bit more pricey than WaMu but the services they offer are worth it.

I pay 26 dllars a month in Fees on my Chase Checking Premier account, but because I have that 26 dollar a month fee, they waive the 75 dollar anual fee for my Safety Deposit Box, they give me Free Checks, the waive the Fee on my Savings account regardless if they are at the minimum balance or not, they also wave the fee on my business accounts.

They also offer liesure rewards and with my Points I was able to get 2 round trip tickets to Hawaii for FREE!!!

Love Chase and WaMu costumers will love them too."

WaMu has always been good to me. They provided extra service or cheaper rates---one of the first brick and mortar banks to launch a high-interest (once 5%) online savings account. They also gave you a monthly FICO score free with your credit card account, but Chase has already said the free FICO is gone after March...so buckle up and get ready for the bumpy ride of conversion to Chase!"

Why settle for 2% when many credit unions and community banks pay up to 6%?!? I've been using CheckingFinder.com to identify which local banks have the best rate. Just type in your zip. All the banks are FDIC insured.

These banks do have requirements including online banking, direct deposit and minimum debit card transactions. This is how these banks are able to offer such high interest. Banks make (or save) a lot of money when you practice these requirements which then gets passed down to the consumer in the form of reward checking. I fulfilled the requirements without even trying (always bank online)."

The Credit Union loyalty products do have a great rate. They have some requirements as you suggested but overall they are good products if a local credit union has this product.

WAMU treated me good, but I'm thinking Chase is just another large bank ready to ruin anyone in their path. Interest rate is junk on saving acct."

got a call from WaMu, saying they were closing my accounts because they 'suspected' someone logged into my account that wasn't me. I had no choice. Both my checking and savings accounts were closed, my checks (which they said would clear) were denied, credit card and mortgage payments were denied. Cost me lots of time and lots of money. Looking for a better local bank alternative - now that they've been taken over by Chase and the interest rate has been lowered so much, there's no reason to stay with WaMu.

Wish I could take back the thumbs up I gave this deal when the interest rate was higher."

There is little reason to keep more in a checking account than one needs for immediate transactions. For most people that means an average balance less than $2000, so even if your account pays nothing you're losing at most $30 a year. In practice my average balance is much lower than that, and in any case there are accounts out there with similar terms that pay more interest.

More generally, with dollar interest rates near zero, using the banking and fiat money system for anything more than convenience is folly. Keep your assets in gold so they don't lose value."

Now at 1.5%. I'm assuming this is due to the prime rate bottoming out though, so the APY might go back up as the economy recovers. Either way, I'm trying to wrangle with customer service to try and switch my existing free checking account to this one now."
