Denied with a 740 beacon. I have had a Cap1 card for 12 years now (it was my first CC). Made 2 consecutive late payments in college 7 years ago; Cap1 did not close my account but deactivated my card. The Cap1 account shows up as open/pays as agreed on my CR with a $300 limit - I tried to get it reactivated so I could increase the CL (I think the $300 limit looks bad on my report) but the customer service rep (Indian call center) said they would not reactivate the card, and I would have to reapply. I got an instant denial because of the late payments back in 2005 (they didn't even check my CR). I would rather just have the Cap1 entry deleted from my report even though it is not negative/derog. For what it's worth, I have perfect payment history on all accts since 2005; was approved without problem for an Amex, Discover, Bank of America Visa, 3% APR used car loan etc.

I've been rebuilding my credit for about 2 years. I started off with 2 secured credit cards and just been building up my credit score by paying them off in full each month. I applied for this card on Sunday and was instantly approved for 500.00. This is my 2nd Capitol One Card and I am very happy with them so far. CS was 572 when I applied with a 100% on time payment record. Pay your bills on time people it really makes a difference, trust me!

Cap One sent me an offer for this card directly. I assumed because I was a previous customer in good standing (they closed the account for inactivity). They approved me instantly for $500. When I called to activate the new card, I got a lecture on building credit from the CSR. Citi gave me a $5,000 card just a week later. The Cap One card is getting cancelled.

Instant approval! Had one credit card in College. This will be my second one and I have nothing else on my credit history. I was surprised to get an instant approval with such a limited history.
