Good if you like to hold

Moved to Tucson, wanted to open a new account.  Tried to get info over the phone about opening an account, had questions that their (inadequate) website didn't answer.  On hold for 14 minutes . .. gave up. Using another local CU.  6 figure account.  Oh well.

Hughes is small and incompetent.

Very easy to work with when you get a loan, because they make money on that. Try to pay it off and get your title, well they don't care and don't have mechanisms in place to do it. After two days of working with Hughes and a member branch  and around ten phone calls, I was told I can't get my title for ten days, even though they told us we could get it electronically in a few hours. 

I will never use Hughes again, and I recommend others avoid them as well.

Behind the times but great rates

They are an ok credit union. There offer a great 4.5% rate on used car loans which is pretty top notch. My credit was ok and they still approved that rate. The people that work there are pleasant in my experience. The biggest complain is that they are way behind the times. Their website is very clunky and hard to use. You can't make payments online unless you pay a fee or setup bill pay through your own bank. There are little to no details on your account when you login to the site. They operate like it is 1992. If you are looking for a good rate and thats it, then HFCU is a good place. If you want the ability to monitor your loan/payoff progress, have a variety of financial options and general information on your loan, or want efficient and quick service then you may want to look elsewhere. As long as I monitor my payoff progress well, I don't have any issues. In an age of very intuitive and interactive websites though, HFCU really needs to step up.
