Two hard credit checks should be One
My husband and I just sold our house. We are doing a VA loan under my name for our new house (we are both vets), as we used his loan certificate for our last home 5 years ago (not doing the same person twice helps with tax credits and rates for VA loans). I had a decent score of 750 when our mortgage broker ran us for pre-approval on a loan in March. 1 hard inquiry - no problem. However, when we found a house in late April, the broker ran a second check on our credit (to ensure we hadn't had any major changes in credit/financial status) - that I completely understand, although not thrilled with 2 hard inquiries in 2 months. However, my credit report now shows 2 inquiries done on the same day that he ran us for final approval in April!!! Now I have 3 hard credit inquiries in 2 months....dropped my credit score by 20 points and will sit there for 2 whole years. I'm not sure if he accidentally requested twice or if this is an error - I spoke to him and he maintains that they only ran it once. How can I get this off?
