Can you contest whether a credit check was "hard" or "soft"?
I had a background check done - no credit was being requested or offered - and it showed up as a hard credit check. Also, my cell-phone company and rental company credit checks showed as "hard" inquiries even though they aren't really extending me credit. I pay them at the begining of the month. I basically have 3 "hard" inquiries and no attempts to obtain credit. Is there anything I can do to get those removed? I would like to open a new credit card and house shop but I don't really want to drop another 5-10 points from inquiries when I'm really not doing that much.
