Love Capital One! Helpful to 3 out of 3 people

I applied for my 1st card in October & got approved instantly. Applied for another in January & was approved instantly for that as well. I made sure to keep my average at using only 30% of the cards & they just increased my 1st card to $500 without even asking. What I did use I paid right away to make sure not to fall below 30% of the card. It definitely has increased my score. Don't rely on Credit Karma score though. It says my average score is a D yet when you average it out it's actually a B. I don't know how they figure that. It had at one point my Auto score was an F yet I have never missed an Insurance payment or had an accident. I only have one bad mark on my credit so it should not be graded as they have it. So only use this a minor guage since it's not fully accurate. Definitely apply for a Capital One card if your building your credit. It will help if you keep the 30% max amount at all times & pay on time 2 weeks before payment is due since it takes 10 days to process in some cases.

Credit line increases Helpful to 9 out of 10 people

In line with all the rest of the reviewers who report a credit line increase after 6 months of successful, prompt payment, I got an automatic credit line increase from $200 to $500. That doesn't mean I will run out and spend all $500 of it, but I am just reporting that if you do your part you WILL get an increase. Most of us who have this card are building credit, so be careful when you get your increase. Continue to use about 10% of your credit and pay it off either on time or early. My score has gone up 50 points in 6 months, but there were a couple of other things that changes so it isn't all due to using this card responsibly. It DID help some though.

Fill your car with gas once every month, and then put the card away. Pay it to $0 on time. A good way to look at this is to not buy anything you don't have the cash for, and don't spend money you wouldn't normally spend. That's why the example of buying one gas fill up. You would do that anyway. You WOULDN'T go out and buy fur lined hub caps or a new pet monkey. (Ridiculous examples to make the point.)

You CAN rebuild your credit. It will take a year or so, maybe 2 depending on why it is bad to begin with. All lenders want to see is a pattern of responsible financial behavior.

I finally applied for this card Helpful to 7 out of 8 people

Yes I finally got up the nerve to apply for this card. At the time my cs was 582 I got approved right away and I put $49 down for a $200 limit. I put a deposit down on 4/2/14 and I just got an email yesterday (4/12/14) that my card is on its way and I should be receiving it in 7-10 business days.

When I applied I received a messege that I had 90 days to put down my deposit, when I made my deposit it wasn't taken from my checking acct right away so I called to make sure that it went through customer service was very nice and let me know that its takes about 48hrs for the transaction to got through, and I didnt receive an email that I was approved for the card when I first applied so I called to see if everything was legit and went through. The person i spoke to said they dont seen emails for the approval but that everything went through and it was find.

Now my score was 582 when I applied but being that I had 4 hard inquiries before applying for capone card made this #5 and my score went down to 576 so it drop by 6pts. Im just mentioning this to let you know that if you have some hard inquires you may wan to to wait 2-3 months before applying for this card.

So Im really looking forward to rebuiling my credit and using this card in a responsible manner.

Im thankful for the reviews and I will only use 20-30% of the card. I only gave 3stars because there was no email to let me know that I was approved I had to call to get my customer number, and I havent used the card yet. but I will add more to let everyone know how things are going with rebuilding my credit. Before I forget customer told me that I have to pay for the annual fee $29 when I first use the card I didnt have to apply the annual fee along with the major deposit so that was good too. I think this is going to be a great progress.

I add more in about 4-6 months to let you know how things are going.

love it Helpful to 4 out of 4 people

this was my first credit card ever! I plan on keeping it too. since it charges the annual fee, I just leave it sitting aside for things like netflix. so every month i usually pay about 8 bucks on it and when the annual fee is due, 38..I don't like to use it much because it has no rewards, no nothing. But I loved it because it helped my credit...two years later and I have three more, which are all rewards. Just pay every month on time and you have nothing to worry about. I definitely recommend to someone starting out.

So Far So Good Still... Helpful to 7 out of 7 people

This is an update from my original review dated 3/21/14.

One week after making the initial deposit I heard nothing, so I phoned customer service. Once transferred to the application dept; they were prompt, professional, and friendly. I was told my deposit was received and I should have my card by 4/4/14. They also reactively, told me once I received the card there would be an upfront charge of $29.00 for the annual fee. They answered all the questions I had pertaining to this card; I was impressed with the service.

I received the card on 4/8 and had to logon to and create an account. Upon doing so I noticed the PAPERLESS STATEMENTS option was selected. (This could be the reason some never received statements so be aware of this!)

Initially my card had a ZERO balance all fund available. As of today my balance is $29.00 (The Annual Fee) $171.00 available.  I have no due date as of yet. So far so good.

MY CREDIT SCORE HAS NOT CHANGED. I will update again one month from now.
