Will opening/using credit cards help me get a mortgage?
My mortgage banker told me that I had non-reportable credit due to lack of credit history. He recommended I open and use a card and then my score looks like it would be in the mid 700's. I was alarmed to see that it was only slightly above 640 here. When I purchased my car several years ago it was in the low 700's, how could it have dropped so much considering I have paid off the car and student loans, and always made payments on time? Wouldnt this increase it? Will using the card increase it rapidly enough (within a month or so) to be back in the 700s? I need to move forward with home financing asap
