Denied due to limited history.

I applied for the MileagePlus because I am going to be traveling back and forth in the US most of the time. I found this card to be one of the most exciting airline CCs so far.
I was very disapointed when I called the -recon- line and being denied due to limited history. It wasnt very surprising but I was hoping to get approved for a lower CL I honestly did not need the 5k minimum CL. I didn't mind a lower CL since it was going to be my 2nd CC.

CK score is 720.

1st CC - Discover  CL $1.5k. (3 months old)

My utilization for my only card is 15% and I have been early on ALL my payments so far. I can't say I am surprised, just hoped i would get approved. I will wait a while long and re-apply. Only have 2 hard inquiries at the moment. I rated it with 3 stars because its by far the only airline CC i see myself applying for and i've heard nothing but good things.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

APPROVED WITH CREDITSCORE OF 640 Helpful to 1 out of 1 people

I was a little hesitant to apply for this card at first do to my low CS but decided to give it a shot.

I started rebuilding my credit with Capital One Secure Credit Card CL $300. After a year and half I signed up for CK and saw my CS at  640 (fyi I started this process with my CS around 560). I went with the suggestion on CK to apply for Capital One Platinum and to my surprise was instantly approved for CL 1k! I was on a high so figured I apply for United Explorer Card.

Well...no instant approval so to say. I started doing some research about approval rating for this card and came across some good forums listing a Recon Line. About a week past I received a letter from Chase. It wasn't a denial letter. It was a letter requesting more information to my surprise. They needed me to verify my identity with SSN, DOB, and current address (i.e. utility bill). I called the Recon Line, got the fax number, since they wouldn't take my word over the phone on who I was, I had to fax documentation. I faxed the information over. I called the next day to check on the status. Faxes are handle through a different dept and have to be scanned in. I waited a week call back on the Recon Line. Gave the agent my Reference Number, he puts me on hold...mean while I'm anticipating a denial and getting my rebuttal ready. Then I hear those magic words...Everything looks good you've been approved for CL 5k, you'll have your card 5-7 days!! I was in shock I made him repeat it again just to clarify I heard him right lol.

Hopes this helps and wish you the best of luck with getting this wonderful card.

Can't Believe I got it!

Had a bit of an app spree recently, applied for 3 cards (Chase Freedom, Barclay Aspiring Prime, and the United Explorer). Received instant approval on the first two, but got the 30 day review on this card. Decided to call the recon line since I applied for two Chase cards on the same day and thought it might have something to do with it. On the other hand, my CK score is 625 my FICO is 611 and my Experian is 675, so I though that was more the case on the delayed response.

I called the recon line, spoke to a pleasant credit analyst who said I was approved for 9k! The only holdup was they were waiting on confirmation from United on my frequent flyer number.

Athough my scores are improving, they are still relatively low for acceptance on this card. So, I was quite pleased not only with my approval, as well as the credit limit. This is especially true since I received 1.3k for Barclay and 2k on the Chase Freedom.
