I have a bankruptcy on my record from four years ago. I have a mortgage, auto loan, student loan, one credit card (used often but with a low limit and paid off every month) and a score in the 670's. All payments are on-time perfect for the last four years.
We are improving our credit to try to get above 720 in the next two years to get a prime mortgage rate. To do that, we will need to add an additional card with a higher limit. Can anyone recommend a credit card company that will not automatically reject us for the bankruptcy and usually offers higher credit limits? Any recommendation is greatly appreciated.

Cap one, but they charge fees and low limits, sorry.

The following cards approved me w/ a bankruptcy on my record (note: I had a Capital One card first, my score was in the 690s - Transrisk and a perfect credit record since the bankruptcy, which was 9 yrs ago) ... These were approved within the last 4 years: Chase Freedom, Discover More, Travelocity American Express (plus the Cap One card). I have been declined for a better Capital One Card and at least one other due to the Bankruptcy. I try to CALL THE COMPANY FIRST if it's not already expressed (Amazon.com Visa Card states up front ... if it asks you if you had a bankruptcy in the last 10 years, don't apply).

That's fantastic. Congrats on the Chase Freedom and Discover. They both have good cash back and rewards benefits. Cap and Orchard specialize in bruised credit, but they have high fees.

I believe this site has a lot of credit card links. Whether they will accept you or not I don't know. The first one to accept us (pre-approved) after that little chapter 7 thingie was Capital One. It has rip off interest but no anal fee.

Merrick Bank, www.hootercard.com was one of the first to approve me after only 3 years out of bankruptcy. They have a great card and generour limit increases 3 -4 times a year.

Just got approved for a Capital 1. Annual fee 19.00, but waives the first year. I will not carry a balance so I don't care what the interest rate is. I want to stop using my debit card so much, especially online.

I have a bankruptcy that is three years old...I have two Cap 1 cards, platinum with the yearly fee of $19 and a No Hassles Rewards card, decent credit limits. Other easy ones I received approval for (except for Merrick which has a good credit limit) have pretty small credit limits of about $500 but it helps rebuild your credit anyway: First National CC, Orchard Bank, and Credit One Bank.

Capital One will allow you to input a little info (name, address) and let you know which of their cards you'd most likely qualify for before running a credit check. You can see fees and rates before you apply. Intrest rates are 12-14% annual fees $39-$59. Credit limit $2000. With bankruptcy.
