I was told staying "out of touch" with creditors for up to 10 years would make any negative files on your credit disappear. It has been about 12 years since I have had last contact with any creditor. I want to try to rebuild my credit. If I open a secured Capital one card or similar, will that boost my credit score, or will they track my SS# back to the old accounts and take me where I don't want to go?
