Poorest experience I have ever had with any financial institution.  Customer service does not have a personal touch.  Very robotic and troublesome to reach anyone for any type of support.

Only the most basic service
Anonymous Account Holder

I have been a customer with Justice Federal Credit Union for 18 years; and the United States Senate FCU for over 20 years.  The Senate FCU puts JFCU to shame.  If I did not have the Senate FCU, I would think that JFCU's service was industry standard.  Because of the Senate, however, I know what good customer service is.  When you ask a question of JFCU, you get a blow off response with next to no research into the issue.

Excellent Credit Union
Gandalf1369 Account Holder

Have been a member since 1992.  In all those 22 years I have never been disappointed with any of their services.  My wife and I currently have our savings and checking accounts with them and have had our mortgage with them for the past 2 years.  Our son has his checking and savings account with them and also his VISA credit card.

I have always received excellent service when personally visiting their corporate offices.  The customer service has been outstanding and all of my questions and/or concerns (when I have any) are always answered promptly.

A credit union that acts like a big bank
Anonymous Account Holder

Customer service was great setting up the account.  Then, when there were fraudulent charges on my JFCU credit card, things fell apart.  It turns out the credit union outsources EVERYTHING.  Checking and savings statements are processed by a third party, bill pay is a third party, the credit card service center and statements are a third party.  As a result, nobody is able to tell you anything because nobody has access to the necessary parts of the account.  I was told I'd have to do my own investigation into the fraud!  I did get a new card, but that was screwed up too.  When it came time to pay, I couldn't because the online payment application would only say "the card returned a system error."  After being bounced back and forth between the credit union and cardholder service groups, I was told I could pay by phone.  After that, I got a $5 fee for paying by phone, which was a complete surprise.  I literally got off the phone 30 minutes ago after talking with Susan and her response?  "We've had that charge for a very long time - we won't reverse it for you."  As soon as I post this, I'm going down to close my accounts.  Other issues: the bill pay list is very limited and it doesn't seem like you can add your own payees, the hours are very limited, and the locations are hard to reach.  Not only that, but because of the types of locations, you have to go through a security screening to get in, and some of them are not accessible at all unless you actually work at that particular location (like FBI).  There are better places out there, with better interest rates and MUCH better customer service.

We've been a member of JFCU for eight years.  They have been one of the worse financial institutions we've had to work with in our lives.  Their fees are bad.  When we first started using them, we kept getting hit with fees that were hidden and unexplained.  We obtained a mortgage through them.  When it was obvious we were going to need assistance, we asked for help under the HARP program.  Their response was "That's a lot of paperwork."  We requested the paperwork from them and they nevr sent it.  It got to the point that we were going to miss a payment and we contacted them in plenty of time before this date (3 weeks prior to the due date).  They literally did not answer until a week after the due date.  We had to force them to give us the HAMP paperwork and start the process.  We completed the HAMP process and they remodified the loan.  However, they just extended the loan out 40 years so in effect we have a 47 year mortgage.  They did not reduce any principal despite the house value being 60% below the original loan value, they sent us the paperwork with only two days to sign despite having over 5 months to prepare it.  The paperwork had the names wrong, the amount was not was discussed, and just a pain.  They never sent the signed by both parties paperwork.  They apparently have a problem using postal mail because they say they've sent us paperwork only to never have it arrive.  We had to resort to PDF's through email to get the necessary paperwork.  After two months on the HAMP payment program, JFCU increased the payment 13.9%.  They claim it was due to a shortage of the escrow which is a crock because we overpaid the taxes the previous year and the home value went up a whopping $6,000.  They are claiming that we were nearly $2,300 short which the paperwork from other sources show we are not.  It has been a nightmare dealing with this banking institution.  I hope you read this and run as fast as you can from this credit union.  There are MUCH better ones out there.
