Settling a debt with a "non reporting agency"? Worth it?
Hi, I have a 2300 past due account from Citibank now in collections from my young and irresponsible college days. It has been 2.5 years since the last payment and in CA the SOL is 4 years. It is through Northland Group. I am trying to clean up my report so I mailed a settlement offer and was given a 920 offer - not bad. But when I inquired about getting it off my credit report I was told they are a non reporting agency representing Citibank. I double checked my credit karma and it hasn't been reported as in collections but rather as "closed as derogatory". My credit score is currently 690, and I am trying to get it better to buy a home in a few years so anything helps, but does this even matter? If they don't report it - will Citibank go back and report it? Any advice would be appreciated.
