Paying back a misreported debt...
I had a credit card go into collections. I worked with them to try and pay it down. After 6 months, they transferred my debt to another agency. My balance (after my last payment with the first collection agency) was $9515.80. The letter I got from the NEW collection agency says my balance is $9597.80. Not paying attention, I started to make payments, not realizing the balance was incorrect. I am asking because I am desperate that this may be my Hail Mary. Is there anything I can do, after the fact? We are about 6 months into repayment to the new collection agency. I wish I would've payed attention when the letter came in, because I would've disputed it as incorrect.
