ABSOLUTELY YES! I don't understand why ignorant people go around telling everyone there is nothing they can do about hard inquiries but wait. This is some very incorrect information. All you have to do is dispute these through the 3 credit bureas as you would any other incorrect info. No matter if you actually applied or not does not matter.

If you were NOT approved for the loan/credit card, etc. then it is much easier to remove them, just say you did not give them permission. NEVER allow a hard inquiry to remain on your reports if it is an account you were not approved for. No sense having a negative mark if you get nothing in return. You should be able to do this all online after receiving your free reports. You can get free reports 2 ways, (1) or if you have already received a free report this year  from all three (2) call or write the reporting agencies, saying you were denied credit based on info on your report info (whether you actually were or not doesn't matter), the law says they have to send you a free report ASAP!

In some  cases you may have to call and talk to one of the bulldogs, if I remember Equifax attendants are the biggest a-holes with this. But I have gotten over 60 credit inquiries removed over the years. If you have an active account linked to one of the inquiries it is a little harder, but not impossible to get it removed. The easiest thing to remove is duplicate inquries, perhaps you applied to 3 different chase credit cards. You can easily get 2 removed whether you meant to apply to all 3 or not.

If you do have problems, you can always feign identity theft, but this is a slippery slope, espcially if you are looking to buy a house soon. BUT the benefits can outweight the problems since your credit can jump as much as 30-100 points if you get your 10 inquiries down to 2.....which is the ideal number. Often times each bureau will report different inquiries, so check all three and dispute away.

The whole process can take as fast as one week or upto 90 days depending on how hard nosed the Equifax people are.
