I have accounts in collection, but live in another country
I've just run my credit report to find that I have two accounts in collection. I don't live in the US at the moment, and haven't for the past 8 1/2 years. I will be moving back in 2015 and want to get a jump on rebuilding my credit before then. Here's the tricky part....the accounts have just gone into collection in the past few months, but the "original" date of the bad debt was 6 years ago. I've read that old/bad items will fall off of your credit report in 7 years, so I wonder now if I'm best off to just do nothing until that 7 year period passes. Or, does the original date renew every time a collection agency gets involved? Any input is much appreciated. Thanks!
