How long do derogatory remarks stick after being paid off?
I have two derogatory remarks on my credit report as a result of two surgeries my wife had. I was not aware the bills had not been paid and they went into collections. The only reason I was aware of the problem was because I had my credit pulled for a refinance and was wondering why my credit had dropped 127 points. Anyway, after contacting the insurance company and explaining their screw-up, they paid off in full both bills. Now, what do I need to do? The debts are paid, there's now a paper trail indicating it was the fault of the insurance company, etc. How do I get rid of the derogatory remarks? Will there be any residual damage from these? How do I completely remove these derogatory remarks and any memory of them from my credit report?
