Defaulted student loans not on credit report
It's been about 4-5 years since I've made payments on my defaulted federal student loans because I've been unemployed and taking care of my disabled parents. I know the loan has changed hands quite a bit - Dept of Ed or various collection agencies. And I contacted them recently to find out where they were and how I could work out a payment plan and nobody's gotten back to me. I'm concerned that they are not on my credit report because if I start paying on them now, I fear it'll pop back up on my CR and screw up my credit score. I don't even see any inquiries from collection agencies I know have had the loans. Anyone know what's going on, or what the best way is to proceed so I don't totally wreck my CS?
