closing credit accounts-good or bad?
We filed bankruptcy 4 years ago and of course started getting credit card offers before the ink on the court documents was dry! Since then we have opened SOME lines of credit for various reasons.....student loans for continuing education, emergency replacement of the washer and dryer, credit through an auto repair shop for repairs and tires, eventually a new car when the old one just wasn't safe anymore, etc. We also had some lines of credit that we did not include in our bankruptcy, such as a home equity line of credit. I have shredded all cards in our possession, because even going through the bankruptcy, my spouse and I have a habit of being too optimistic and thinking we'll have money to pay things off! Even though the accounts are paid off or in good standing, the accounts are technically still open. What will help our credit scores more, officially closing the accounts or inactivity and keeping them open?
