Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card

This card rebuilt my credit confidence!

Capital One took a chance on me when my own personal bank would not! I have to review this card simply because it over delivers on its promise. I wrecked my credit 4+ years ago. Since then I have disputed accounts and monitored my activity closely. I was well below a 600 when I opened a secured credit card with Wells Fargo back in 2014.  The banker misled me and told me that I would have an unsecured card within a year plus have my deposit returned. I started with $700 and to this day they still have not returned my deposit despite multiple calls to review my account for an upgrade! There is always an excuse! And I have not missed one payment!

I say all that to highlight the fact that I opened my account with Capital One in March of 2019. I was approved for a $1500 limit and used this card heavily like a debit card. I applied for this card after reading reviews about their 6 month credit limit increase. I also contacted their customer service repeatedly for clarification, the experience was always above expectations. At the age of 29 with virtually no credit I needed all the increases I could get. I only expected a $500 increase. I woke up this morning and went from $1500 to a $4500 limit! Capital One is great to have the limit increase progress bar. It said that my increase would come between Sept 14 and Oct 14. Well “Christmas came early” and on Sept 8 I have been upgraded!

I plan to challenge Wells Fargo soon on my security deposit even more because Capital One has given me the confidence to do so! I hope this review helps! Cheers!!

My Second Capital One Card Experience
Helpful to 61 out of 61 people

This card was really easy to apply to! I am no longer a student, at 29 I am focusing on improving my credit. I have owned the QuickSilver One card for the past 6 months and the experience has been amazing. I honestly wanted the Venture Card but instead of pushing it I applied for the Journey Rewards card. With the QuickSilver One card they started me with a $1500 limit then upgraded me to $4500! Capital One approved my Journey Rewards card with a $3000 limit, 6 months and one day after being approved for the QuickSilver One card! Hope this review helps a future applicant! Cheers!!

Citi® Double Cash Card

Easy application, great starting limit!
Helpful to 71 out of 73 people

Today I applied to the Citi Double CB card after having very good approval odds accoring to Credit Karma. TU - 708 and Equifax - 775. March 14th of this year my score was a 601! After focused effort on my credit and two new Capital One cards, I can finally say I am taking my credit in the right direction. Capital One started me on the QS 1 with a 1500 limit and after 5 months increased it by 3000 to 4500. Still focused on buidling my credit activity, in October I applied to Capital One's Journey Student rewards card (even though I am years removed from being a student) and was approved for a 3000 limit. So far things are going well. I called Capital One to see if I qualified for an upgrade. I have a goal of minimizing my annual fees. The QS1 had a $39 annual fee which requires me to spend on it just to break even! Good news, they upgraded me to the Venture One card and let me transfer my total cash back rewards to the Journey card so that I would not lose my $113+ in cash. Now I have a new every day spend card in Citi! I would caution though that you apply to the Citi card on their actual website because the CK app timed out and I didn't get to create user ID or get my card number info. Overall I am looking forward to this card and I will provide any updates as I continue to use it. Oh and I searched online for typical starting limits for Citi Double Cash cards, I wasn't looking forward to alot but they surprisingly approved me for a limit of 6900!

Wells Fargo Secured Card

This card is a JOKE!

I have owned this card since October of 2014! And like many other reviewers they have held my deposit hostage meanwhile charging me their usual annual fee. The banker misled me to open the account assuring me that I would have my deposit back within a year. This is was during the time WF had aggressive sales tactics. I wish I knew about the other secured cards that were better than this. I cannot recommend this card or this bank to anyone that I know. I have done alot business with WF and they continue to give me the run around! Be AWARE! Capital One has been such a great experience for me and I have owned their card for less than a year. They are transparent with their credit limit increase tracker. And they do not have an annual fee on their secured card! If you choose a secured card I would definitely go with Captial One over WF any day and twice on Sunday! As a matter of fact I just recommended Capital One to a family member who is just beginning their credit journey!! Hope this review helps, Wells Fargo needs to finally do right by their clients! Cheers!!

Wells Fargo Secured Card

Dec 02, 2019

Update: I have called their customer service repeatedly (as you should if you want to get anything done regarding this card) and the details are never really clear. So much so that even their own personal banker had issues communicating with the credit department. I have yet to receive anything in writing about what to expect with this card upgrade. Also, it has been shared with me that Wells Fargo will no longer carry this card. So it will finally put most of their clients out of their misery. Or might have determined that this card was an easy spin and sell for ethically questionable bankers. I plan once I receive this upgrade to raise my limit. Who knows how that will go, with my banking relationship and current credit standing I deserve some respect on my limit. NO CAP.

Here is an update, I reached out to Wells Fargo several times and they told me I have finally been reviewed for upgrade. They determined that I can be upgraded on Oct 30th and say it will not be until January 2020 that I will see my account actually upgraded. They said they mailed the letter informing me of their decision but it has not turned up yet. Still waiting. Will update my experience moving forward.

Wells Fargo Secured Credit Card Upgrade?

Sep 24, 2019

The collections is a delinquent charge off account for $127. When I call Wells Fargo for an upgrade they refer to a derogatory filing on my credit. And that is the only one I can see.

Sorry to hear you were denied. I still believe Capital One is a good company to build credit with! Also, within their application guidelines it states that there is a two card limit with Capital One:

"I understand that I am not eligible for this offer if:

I have 2 or more open credit card accounts with Capital One."

Just for clarification since you said you had a platinum card in the review, you were a college graduate who applied for the Journey card and started with a 3000 limit correct? I’m asking because I’ve been out of school for 3 years and want a no annual fee cash back card. This one says I have very good odds of approval.

That’s unfortunate! Trust me I’ve been there looking for a fresh start with credit. They didn’t approve this one but their secured card starting out would be a good place to begin. 5 months of on time payments and you’re off to the races. They have a progress bar regarding your limit increase. Also, they refund your deposit in full if you’re balance is zero at the time of upgrade or they’ll just apply it to your new unsecured card. Good luck!
