Background: I've been a customer of Citi since 1998...started out with their Citi Dividend Platinum Visa product with a credit line of $7,500 and after a couple of years they lowered it to $5,810 (no explanation given).

In August 2011, I wanted to apply for a travel rewards card and selected the Hilton HHonors Signature Visa Card. I applied online and was given the 7-10 day wait period. There's an option with Citi when you apply to provide your phone number and/or email and they'll text or email your approval or denial status within a few days....they emailed me with a "congratulations" message and approved for $9,000 credit line. I was a bit shocked at the high credit line but I'll take it so it'll boost my utilization to credit limit ration along with my other cards. My FICO average was 708 and income in the $105k to $110k range....nothing negative in my reports and 22 year credit history....on time payments, no lates on my report....they pulled Equifax.

The rewards are fantastic! I get emails from Hilton HHonors about every 2 to 3 weeks with offers to expand my opportunity to earn more rewards points and I've taken advantage of them. For travel, staying at their Hilton branded hotels will earn you rewards boost points (i.e., I stayed at Embassy Suites in Orlando for 5 days and was given an additional 15,000 points bonus simply for putting the stay on my Hilton HHonors card). Points add up fast. Redeem for everything including air travel, hotel stays, merchandise and gift cards. I've used my rewards points for all of the above. Last year, I used 80,000 points for a round trip flight on American Airlines and simply had to pay the baggage fees (note: the sign up bonus for the card is 60,000 points if you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months you have the card).

I definitely recommend getting this card especially if you travel and enjoy the Hilton brand.

Weird customer service

I currently have the citi diamond preferred card and I called to change to this card. The guy told me it would take over a month to switch and I'll have a whole new account number. I didn't want a hard inquiry nor to start my years over so we will see if either of these things happen. Disappointed on how little the customer service rep knew. I am however excited to rack up free travel points.
