I'm looking to build credit, but I keep getting rejected because I have a 'limited credit history'. How can I get a credit card? I would prefer to avoid secured credit cards if possible because they require a deposit.

Try going to your local credit union the initial interest rate will not be 0% like a lot of those mail offers but they won't spike and double in a year either. They will start you out with a lower credit limit too, like $250, make sure to pay your bill in full every month to avoid damaging your credit early, and never miss a payment or pay late, if there is a problem call them and usually they can work out a grace period for you.

Credit unions are great if you belong to one. Conversely try a credit card gear for students. Capital One seems to be getting lots of good reviews.

I did try one of those, but I got rejected unfortunately due to having 'limited credit history'.

I heard that adding your name to someone else credit card would help you to create some form of credit history.
