I am considering put my student loans in deferment. This could affect my credit score?

Probably because the payments are put  "on hold" for a specified period and the interest continues to accrue, resulting in larger payments when you do begin making them. However, the deferrment gives you a chance to get better established in your career so that you can make the payments after. Check out forebearance, too and discuss both with your loan servicer.
