Request increase or apply for different card?
I've had a Capital One Platinum MC since 08/2014 with a $300. I'm planning a trip to the UK around the end of 05/2015 for a week or so. While I'm there I would like to be able to use my Capital One card since there aren't any fees for foreign transactions. Ideally I would like to have around $3000 limit on the card so I can spend around $900 - $1000 while I'm there and pay it off when I get back to the US. I was notified by CreditKarma that I have a very good chance of getting a Capital One Quicksilver MC. My question is would I be better off to request a credit line increase on the existing Platinum card in a few months or should I apply for the Quicksilver MC (that has rewards) in a few months and hope to get a decent line of credit on it? My current credit score according to CreditKarma is 661 (it was 670 according to my bank when I was approved for an auto loan in 09/2014) and my annual income is $50k. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
