Open Accounts in Collection
How can I find out how old the 3 are that I have showing as being 'open in collection?' I have read in the forums here that if I contact the listed collection agencies to ask any information, then I would automatically be considered as reopening, and they would restart my collection information. I know that 2 of the 3 agencies pertain to medial related bills that were incurred at some point during 2007-8. If it is true that these could drop off any credit report in 7 years, then I don't want to jeopardize that by contacting them, and have them reopen the billing to today's date, for another 7 yrs. Also, I have not received ANY communication from these agencies is over 6 yrs, and they have my permanent address on previous collection bills that I was able to locate. What should I do? I am living off of limited savings right now until I get another job contract, and I cannot afford to pay off, or start making payments to these collection companies.
