Help with collections and settlements!
My Fiance has an unpaid student loan, he is now being contacted by a collection agency on behalf of the debt. He spoke with them to make a settlement deal, to get it taken care of so we hopefully can buy a house in the future. He has received a written contract but has not signed it or paid anything. If says the debt will be reported as cured once the settlement is paid but we do not want "cured" to leave a negative effect. Is it too late to ask for it to be completely removed as part of the deal? Is he legally bound if he doesn't sign the written deal because it was drafted if they don't agree?
