FAKO versus FICO
CreditKarma and many other free credit score sites DO NOT give you TransUnion or any bureaus TRUE FICO score. They are estimating a credit score from data from the bureaus BUT apply different algorithms. CreditKarma and credicards.com both use VANTAGESCORE. Your FICO scores may be much better or much worse than what CreditKarma tells you. Biggest difference is payment history. It is 35% of your score on FICO but only 25% on Vantage. So poorer payment history will look better on Vantage than it really is on FICO. The formulas for different FICO scores weight items differently. If you apply for mortgage FICO score will be different than FICO for auto loan. Best source of information I have found is myFICO.com. Non-FICO score formulas are called FAKO meaning it is not accurate giving you a fake credit score. Sometimes CreditKarma gives a pretty close estimate but some situations it can be either very high or very low compared to true FICO.
