collection accounts open but zero balance
I'm quite confused right now. I have 3 credit accounts that went to collections that are showing as "open" with a $0 balance. I don't understand this. If it is a zero balance, shouldn't they be closed? My loan officer confirmed this. I filed bankruptcy in 2011 and all debt was discharged 8/2011. All balances are $0. Most are listed as "closed" except for these 3. Is there a reason they aren't? Also- I have seen conflicting information about the other closed accounts. They are supposed to drop off of my report after 7 years, right? Would that be 7 years from the original date they were reported (in 2009) or when they were discharged, in August of 2011? I'm building a down payment for a home and would like to know an ideal time to apply for a home loan that will give me the best odds. My original plan was to wait another year to build credit history and for the collections to drop off...but now I don't know if they will or not. Thanks!
