2 hard inquires show near same date for buying a car.
Shouldn't they count as 1? Anything I can do?

When future creditors look at your score, two inquiries for an auto loan won't have a big impact sinxce the dealer was trying to get you the best interest rate.  Now, if it were a much larger number, THAT might have an impact.  And, if you've read the information on credit factors here, you'll find that inquiries are not that significant.

Hard inquiries conducted during rate shopping are scored as a single inquiry. However, they must be listed individually as a record of all companies that have pulled your credit in the past 2 years.
