I agree with superkamiguru. Amex advertises cards this way during online check-outs, it seems like an attractive deal, but the card number never comes through. Then you call customer service and it sounds like they are telling everyone the same. This offer is a lie imo.

Super disappointed with the application process. I was in the process of booking a flight when I applied. I would be able to use the card (and $200 discount on the flight as a credit on the card) immediately upon approval and I was approved. But I was not able to retrieve the card number in order to complete the booking. The screen that would display the card number timed out and I never got any confirmation emails after I was approved. I called their 800 number and was connected to someone who would walk me through this. I then received two identical emails within 5 minutes of each other with a link that would get me access to the credit card number. This consists of 4 steps, but I never made it past step 1, which was receiving a one time pin-code through my email. I did receive 3 pincodes for 3 tries, but the screen ended either in "Our system is not working at this time" kind of message or "You have used the back button of your browser" error (which I had not). The person on the phone could not further help me, and I will need to use 3 to 5 days for the card in the mail before I can book the flight that presented this offer. It's one of those experiences that feels like a lie. I will never know if this is supposed to work as suggested. One more thing: the $200 credit to the flight will not be applied until 10-12 weeks later, so I will first have to pay the full amount due since there is only a regular grace period and no interest free period. Very MEH. I don't think this was worth to have a hard inquiry on the card. I will probably just book the flight I want while it is still available and forget about this card.
