Citi Double Cash® Card review

Updated August 1, 2025

Is the Citi Double Cash® Card worth it?

The Citi Double Cash® Card offers 2% cash back on all purchases —1% back when you make the purchase and then another 1% back when you pay it off. This straightforward approach makes it attractive for people who prefer simplicity over managing bonus categories.

Even if you already have a credit card with bonus rewards on certain spending categories, it may be handy to have this card in your wallet for purchases outside of bonus categories that earn less than 2%.

The card’s utility isn’t limited to earning cash back. The Citi Double Cash® Card also provides a solid introductory APR balance transfer period, making it a valuable tool for consolidating and managing existing debt.

But while the Citi Double Cash® Card stands out for its consistent cash back and useful balance transfer option, it notably lacks a 0% introductory APR on purchases.

Citi Double Cash® Card at a glance

Citi Double Cash® Card best perks and features

High flat-rate cash back rewards

The Citi Double Cash® Card provides a straightforward 2% cash back on all purchases (1% upon purchase and 1% upon payment). This flat rate is attractive for people seeking simplicity and a strong, consistent rewards structure without the need to track bonus categories.

Introductory balance transfer offer

The Citi Double Cash® Card offers an introductory 0% APR on balance transfers for 18 months from account opening, providing an opportunity to save on interest for existing high-interest debt. After the introductory period, a variable APR of 18.24% - 28.24% will apply.

Note that the balance transfer must be completed within the first four months of account opening to receive the intro balance transfer APR offer. You’ll also be charged a balance transfer fee: Intro fee 3% of each transfer ($5 minimum) completed within the first 4 months of account opening. After that, 5% of each transfer ($5 minimum).

No annual fee

The card has an annual fee of $0, so you don’t have to worry about earning enough rewards to make up for one. This is particularly beneficial for people who want to maximize their rewards without the pressure of an annual fee.

What are the drawbacks of Citi Double Cash® Card?

No 0% APR promotion on purchases

The Citi Double Cash® Card doesn’t offer a 0% introductory APR on new purchases. This is a key consideration for people planning to make large purchases who might prefer a card that offers a period of interest-free financing.

Balance transfer fee

The card charges a balance transfer fee: Intro fee 3% of each transfer ($5 minimum) completed within the first 4 months of account opening. After that, 5% of each transfer ($5 minimum).

How to redeem ThankYou® Points

You can redeem the ThankYou® Points earned with the Citi Double Cash® Card for a paper check, a statement credit or as a direct deposit into a linked Citi checking or savings account. You can also deposit your rewards into an external checking or savings account that you have used at least twice to pay your Citi credit card bill.

Citi’s Shop with Points program allows you to redeem points at various retailers, too, including Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart. You can also redeem points for gift cards and travel through the Citi Travel portal.

Good card

Credit Karma Member

I receive an invitation from the pre-selected in my mail . I apply with a credit 703 and they approve it for 1000$ , but on credit karma day my chance of approval was poor . If you receive the invitation apply for it . It’s a good card. Before apply make sure you freeze two of you bureo of credit and leave just the highest score you have . They will impact just and the one you leave it unfreeze. Just a tip

Credit Karma lied about my approval odds

Credit Karma Member

I applied for this card because Credit Karma said I had an outstanding chance to get it. Filled out the application and was denied. Now I will have a hard inquiry and have to wait for a letter to see why it was denied. I have worked hard to get my credit where it is now and do not appreciate being lied to and now have negative points and a hard inquiry for it.
