The best thing you can do is to pay your debts on time and stay employed. If you do not use much of your available credit, you could increase your utilization somewhat, but I don't recommend that. Ultimately, your goal should be to pay cash for everything. Another possibility is if you already utilize a LOT of credit, pay down as much as you can. In the eyes of FICO, too much and too little credit utilization can hurt your score. Don't get too hung up on that, though. Pay your bills, pay down large amounts of revolving credit, and keep your job.

What if the only debt I have is a $5500 school loan but I'm still in school and all of my credit cards are paid in full. You said pay for cash for everything, which I prefer but paying cash doesn't reflect on my credit score so what do I do I only have a 640.
