I have had AMX Starwood for about 4 years. My Credit Score is 782 and from the start AMX gave me a credit line of $35K. The starwood points has been most useful for Sheraton Hotels over the years. From 3,000 to 4,000 point we stay one night in some of the better Sheraton's in Houston, TX when traveling to Galveston for a cruise. Love. Never had a problem with AMX Starwood or my AMX Blue."

Reply Cancel ReplyEven with a credit score a 740, AMEX reduced my credit limit to $2,400 after their infamous "review" based on errenous info in my credit file. Thanks, but no thanks!"

Reply Cancel ReplyI agree with the AMEX comments. After a decade of carrying and using their card, they still provided terrible customer service. I decided to cancel the card, yet they put in the credit report that account was closed at the request of the creditor.
I have submitted multiple requests to have reflect the truth which is that I requested the account be closed, because I didn't want to deal with their lousy service."

Reply Cancel ReplyMy credit union VISA gives me a 1% cash rebate with no annual fee. I don't see how these AMEX cards can be considered anything but a bad deal unless you are constantly traveling and can put the free stay against the annual cost. But what if you stop traveling? It becomes a ball and chain."

Reply Cancel ReplyAMEX has proved a bad company to do business with. They have not provided me good service on their credit card despite my loyalty and credit payment history. Avoid this card or other AMEX cards."

Reply Cancel ReplyAmEx canceled my account after 24 years, a 740 credit score and never missing payment after a financial review as the spokesman put it because of a 2nd mortgage I co-signed for my parents home. The spokesman said they would review my account in 3 months once again. I went to my credit union and was issued a credit limit 3 times the AmEx limit at 9%. AmEx has gotten too big for their britches: I won't ever carry there card again."

Reply Cancel ReplyAMEX did the same thing to me. They canceled on me even though I have never missed a single on time payment and always paid off the whole balance each month. Then they took back the rebate that I have earned from Costco and said that since the card was canceled, I don't get to have the rebate."

Reply Cancel ReplyApproved with ck.com score of 747 with $6000 limit. Combination of this card with Starwood Preferred Guest program makes it a no brainer."

Reply Cancel ReplyAMEX is a very poor choice of credit card issuer. If you do a search on Google, you will see that many people with perfect credit and 100% on-time payments are subjected to an onerous "financial review" -- a process in which AMEX will cancel your credit cards without any notice (causing you the embarrassment of a declined transaction) and demand to see all sorts of personal financial information including an IRS authorization that gives them unrestricted access to your tax forms. Although AMEX may seem prestigious, in reality they treat you as if you should be grateful they saw fit to bestow a credit card upon you. If you have good credit, there are far better options out there. I have had much better experiences with Citi, FIA (BofA), and many credit unions."

Reply Cancel ReplyThe SPG points very useful. Getting an suite upgrade for just a few thousand points for my honeymoon."

Reply Cancel ReplyI would not even bother with this card unless you're looking to convert an existing AMEX product over to this one. No approval details or requirements mentioned on the Starwood, anywhere. AMEX only wants the top 5% of borrowers (WSJ), so mid 700s and below shouldn't even bother unless you've already got AMEX and want this product.
The initial points awarded are generous, but after that you do have to pump some volume through this card to get miles. Perhaps if you have to expense a lot of corporate purchases this would be ideal ($10,000 every 3 months to get the rewards flowing). Perfect card for the executive or foreign diplomat. For a hausfrau in Peducah? No."
