One of the worst re-financing experiences I have ever had.  The fact that nothing seemed organized is one thing.  The fact that I needed to provide information way outside of the norm even though I have had my orginal loan with them for 8 years.  I will never make that mistake again and use an agent becuase at least they are motivated to make this happen.

BADBANK Borrower

We have a Fifth Third loan on rental house. We put a young couple on a lease option to buy. After two years the couple stopped paying and it became hard to keep up the mortgage payments. Now, by no means is this Fifth Third's fault. Finally we decided to file for hardship on this loan. My wife became disable and I had a change of employment. We went from eight pay checks a month to three pay checks a month. One of the checks is the wife's disabilty. Again, this no fault of Fifth Third Bank. However all of this was disclosed during the refinance process. Fifth Third's payment is due on the first of every month. We discussed changing the due date to the middle of the month so we could cover the payment on time. Fifth Third told us that was agains company policy. We are eight months into the refinance and Fifth Third Bank calls every month wanting their payment. Every month I explain that the payment will be paid on the second Tuesday of every month. Every month the payment is made on the second Tuesday and every month we get tagged with a late payment. In short, if you are looking for a bank to work WITH you, stay away from Fifth Third Bank.

Absolutely terrible. Biggest mistake

Ive had our mortgage loan with 5th third for almost 5 years... Biggest mistake of my life...

The application process was ridiculous to go through to begin with. However, the did give me the lowest rate. After the first year apparently the escrow was under paid by $17 on a $2800 loan which we were never notfied about. For the next 4 months they nevered applied my mortgage payment and marked it late because they claim they didnt know were to apply the payment. we proceeded to pay the balance of $73 after speaking with dozens of CSRs, supervisors and whoever. I only have one account. After trying to refinance through a different company, this all resulted in serious derogatory points on my credit report so we cant even refinance without getting a higher rate.

Claim of escrow underpayment
execsec100 Borrower

I refinanced my home in July to get a better rate.  Everything went fine.  My house payment was down $100 a month due to the lower rate.  Then 6 months later I get a letter from the bank saying I underpaid my escrow by over $1000.  They want to take $100 a month to make up the difference.  I checked my home insurance. It did go up $153 a year. My taxes didn't go up.  This took my home payment up above what I was paying before the refinance.   The bank can not show me on paper where the increase came from. I have spoken with them over the phone, went into the bank and all they can say is that I owe the money.  No one can tell me why.  I am afraid I am going to get the short end of the stick on this, but I am still trying to get them to show me on paper and in figures why I owe this extra money.  I think someone screwed up during the refinance. Don;t deal with this bank.  I hear to many horror stories.

mortgage- Horrible nightmare
Anonymous Borrower

Mortgage department is only out to make their money after all it is a bank. Mortgage dept does not care about your situation or hardship. I applied for a hardship program and never signed any legal documents and they still charged me over $1,100, which I still owe until I can sell my house. They told me to stop making house payments to be part of this program then charged me all types of late fees when I decided to not go through with their hardship program. I ended up being more in debt believing they were going to help me. 5th/3rd continued to send me letters offering to refinance the loan at a lower rate, but when I showed up to their office with the letter they said I had bad credit for 2 yrs and they couldn't lower my house payments ( for not paying 2 months of mortgage payments they told me not to pay to be part of the hardship program). Do not trust their help it is a money making scam only to help them not the consumer.
