I found out about RateGenius through Credit Karma. I was going through my credit report and saw that I could refinance my car loan and RateGenius had the lowest interest rate. I had clicked on the RateGenius link and saw they were mostly rated 4 out of 5 stars. I read a lot of the reviews and was pleased so I proceeded to move forward and filled out my application. Of course after I submitted it, I decided to read some of the 1 and 2 star reviews (I realize I probably should have done that sooner). As I'm reading the reviews about the extra charges, numerous hard hits on your credit score and the terrible customer service, I started to panic and was instantly regretting my decision. However at this time it was too late, I already applied so it is what it is.
Let me tell you that my experience with RateGenius was amazing and I had absolutely 0 complaints. To address some of the negative reviews that were given I'd like to point things out from my experience. Yes I did receive, emails, texts and phone calls from RateGenius but they weren't annoying (at least not to me). They text and emailed me informing me they received my application and it's being processed and I would receive a call. The only time I was notified by them was when a new step in the process was completed or if additional information was needed. I liked that because I knew exactly where my application was. The hard hits on my credit score are typical when you are refinancing something. I found it didn't even affect my score at all. Because of all the negative reviews, I found myself asking a ton of questions and carefully reviewing the paperwork when I received it. All of my questions were answered and they truly did what they said they were going to do. Some people complained about a membership fee. The membership fee is not RateGenius' fault. It depends on the lender that is willing to give you the loan. I had a one-time membership fee of $15 and the person I spoke with from RateGenius informed me ahead of time this was going to happen. He walked me through all of the paperwork and whenever I called, he was available to answer my questions. He never pushed anything extra on me and I appreciated that. There were people who complained about RateGenius not finding them a good lender and that they didn't understand because they had amazing credit. It's not just the credit score that matters, you also have to look at your debt to income ratio. If you're way over 32%, chances are you aren't going to get as low of a rate as you hoped. Just and FYI to everyone out there complaining about that.
I would definitely use RateGenius again and would refer them to all of my friends and family.
