Credit Reports and Credit Scores

Helpful to 1 out of 1 people

First of all, you have to understand the difference between your credit report (the info that is relayed from the credit bureau) and your credit score.  Your Credit report isn't actually a score at all, but rather, it's the information and details of your reported financial history (AGAIN, there is NO SCORE on your actual credit report)

And your credit ‘score’ is the number derived by a special calculator the lender or website is using to evaluate the information in your credit report.  There are thousands of calculators out there that measure the information in your credit report differently from each other. But they all use the same information from your credit report to calculate a completely different score from others that may look at the same report.  As an example; one calculator might not count closed accounts, another calculator might say closed accounts are important and include that information in its score results.  So one credit score might say 805, and another might say 720; while they both use the same credit report to calculate the score, they can be completely different.

The point you really need to focus on from Credit Karma, is the information in your credit report.  The information here will help you improve your score regardless of the calculator used.  Because when you take care of the items you know to be detrimental to your credit, most any calculator will show an improved score.

HERE doesn't matter.

The credit score here is an approximation based on partial credit information and it is only for YOUR use on THIS site so you can learn about credit and how to improve yours.  It is not reported to anyone else.  Credit Karma's purpose is to TEACH credit skills so those who actually can read and pay attention will not make the horrid mistakes that often lead to financial disaster. I was trained in accounting and how credit works was not taught in those classes, so I am grateful for the education provided here and have greatly improved my credit score from the things I have learned.
