I had a vehicle repo over seven years ago. The loan company sold my debt to another company.
Not sure what to do since they sold the original debt right before the seven year statute of limitations.

They are good at that!

On older accounts the date of last contact is important, so don't reply to any letters or phone calls from collection companies.

Get free copy of one of your credit reports.  You can get 1 free copy from each Credit Bureau once a year. Don't pull all 3 of your credit reports at once. You'll want to pull another report in 4 months and again in 8 months so you can see the progress on your credit report. All 3 share information so what you see in one will be very close to whats on the others.   Do this at the government website  AnnualCreditReport.com
Print and  Go through the report with a marker. Your looking for dates on this account and anything else negitive in your file.   File disputes on all negative information that you find on your credit report at the Credit bureaus websites.

Follow through by writing the "Validation Letters" on the same info and mailing them to one of the Credit Bureaus.  Google "Validation letter" for more info and templates.  Mail these "Return Receipt Requested" (paper trail).   The Collection agency will have to verify that they have the legal right to collect and have all the documentation, If they don't have all their ducks in a row the account will be removed.

Read up on the artilces and blog posts on this site.  All this info is there for you to learn from.

Good luck
