How quickly can bankruptcy be filed?
I'm at the point where I definitely need to file bankruptcy. I was told by one attorney in the area that because of the new bankruptcy laws, his fee has to be paid in full before he can file and give me a case number. I wasn't sure whether this is true, or whether he's just trying to make sure he gets his money. Seems to me that most people who file bankruptcy don't have a lot of funds to begin with, and if you don't have all the funds and have to come up with them over time, you could end up getting sued by creditors in the meantime. I had to file bankruptcy back in the mid 2000s (case was discharged in 2005), and the attorney I used back then let me file right away and pay over time. I know the credit counseling class has to be taken now, so I'm taking that into account (that can be done online in a day).
