If you check all three credit reports once a year you can see if there are any wrong items.  Then you file disputes on each and every wrong item with the credit bureau(s) showing them.

NEVER carry your Social Security card with you.  You only need to show that card a few times in your life but that number is a gold mine to identity thieves.  Keep your Social Security card locked in a safe place until needed.

You will want to look into an identity protection service, like lifelock or a company like that.
