Derogatory remark from 6-year-old bad debt shows up now
Maybe because I was overseas for six years, a bad credit card debt from 2/2009 was only reported 12/2015. How does that affect the seven years it takes for it to be deleted from credit reports?

It doesn't affect the seven years. They can update the account every month if they want to, updates don't change a thing, in fact nothing changes the start of the seven years, the seven years begins at the DOFD date. (date of first delinquency) and that is usually one month after the last payment that you made before the charge off. If you DOFD was feb of 09 then it should be eligible to be removed right now under EARLY EXCLUSION so do some reading on that and start calling the credit bureaus.
